Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since March of that year.
Success also indicates he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.
The player's counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was over.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved service.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.
Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to force a third set.
Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
